Learning to hand build with Danika Vautour:

Having a go at creating something with clay was something I have always wanted to do, so the opportunity to have a session of hand building in Danika’s studio was not something I was going to miss. Under Danika’s expert tuition and guidance, I was able to try a number of different techniques, with Danika offering support all the way. She explained the stages of firing and glazing and provided advice on different glazes, and once complete I was thrilled to be able to take home my own pottery creations.
I look forward to my next class with Danika.

Learning to throw with Danika Vautour:

Great teaching not only imparts the mechanics and choreography of an activity, but also coats the new skill with positive attitudes and conductive states of mind. There is calm discipline and minimalism in Danika’s work which, joyfully for me, also flows into her teaching.

I had the pleasure of learning throwing with Danika in spring 2019 one to one during her residency at Kiln Cambridge, UK. She put me at ease with every aspect (even the temperature of the water) so that the whole process of wedging, centering, coning, lifting, compressing bottoms, looking after my rims… was like a slow kind of a dance. Yes, the wheel can spin very fast, but it can also slow down and stop and allow yourself to assess what you have done at every step. The most enduring lesson of Danika’s was that of patience. Danika understands how important it is to achieve early on whilst giving enough theory to see that there is a lot more to know of each part of the process without getting overwhelmed.

I went on to turn that first thrown bowl of that session and it lives on my chest of drawers. This October I opened my online shop, so the seed of confidence that Danika planted produced a first crop 20 months later. I am fully aware that there is a glut lot more to learn about ceramics, but starting off with a teacher as knowledgable and gentle as Danika put me on the right track. Thank you so much!

Teapot and Coffee Pot Workshop:

This has been such an amazing experience. Besides the endless patience Danika has she is such a professional!
She led the group with confidence and with her calm attitude. She was very attentive to everyone and helped when needed.
